What are Orthodontic braces?

Braces consist of metal brackets that are bonded to your teeth with a secure agent, and connected to each other by a thin metal wire and elastic bands. This wire and band combination generates a gentle pressure on each tooth, encouraging them to move into a better position and alignment over time. Dr. Henslee and Dr. Hafen often choose to use orthodontic braces when trying to reposition crowded or poorly spaced teeth.

Henslee Dental Team also offers an alternative to metal braces, called Invisalign invisible braces.

What are braces used to correct?

Class 1 Malocclusion – Bite OK, Crooked Teeth. This is where teeth are biting properly, and the top and bottom ones are aligned but are crooked, twisted or all crowded together.

Class 2 Malocclusion – Overbite. This is also sometimes called a deep bite, or buck teeth. Here the upper teeth are pushing forward and not meeting properly with the bottom set, but rather are biting over the lower set.

Class 3 Malocclusion – Underbite. Similar to overbite, except that here the lower set are the ones that are too far forward.
